I have bits of time here and there, but a busy work schedule. So far, I have learned only some of the basics of speaking Spanish, but now what? Thanks for any ideas!

Spanish seems to be less messier or cleaner in terms of rules and verb conjugation compared to Portuguese. What’s your thought?

Tim asked:
Should I built up my Spaish vocabulary first? Pronunciation seems to be straight forward in those self learning books but they are tough to pronounce, any clues? Does my background in English help in the pronunciation?

Please I’ve been trying to teach myself for at least a year now. I took a class and I didn’t like it because the teacher talked in Spanish the whole time and refused to speak English at anytime. What is the best software program?

forgetyourrestraints_x asked: I’m using Teach Yourself Spanish, and each chapter on average introduces about 15-20 news words and 4 or 5 new gramatical concepts, and 1 or 2 irregular verbs. Obviously, everyone is different, but what would be considered a resonable amount of time to spend on each chapter before you had it fairly well memorised?
Thanks

What were your motivations at first, and why did you change? I would like to encourage you to keep your vision alive. Ignore those on both sides. Some hispanics feel the need to taunt others and say mean spirited things. Some radicals go beyond the issue and start calling hispanics racist names. Ignore them both. Sort through the mess and keep your dream alive. I was affected by all the hate going back and forth. Just like a cold can be caught, so can hate. Just let it go because better things lie in store for you. Spanish is beautiful, for it is a language of progression. It was not only spoken by Spain but by Africans then Arabs, centuries before it came across the Atlantic. No Latin group can claim direct ownership or a monopoly on the language. The Dominicans from the Dominican Republic are the only Latin group who can feel special because the Spaniards stayed there due it its gold and natural resources. Illegal immigration is not your issue, so let it go!
