If you don’t learn Spanish, you ‘ll be left behind, and you won’t be able to communicate with those that you hate.

Pretty good, and I have made sure both my children are fluent in Spanish, as well as English and Japanese. How is your English coming along?

I only know one phrase in spanish and it isnt a nice one. I am saving it for a special occasion. I do NOT intend on learning spanish BTW. These invaders can damn well learn and speak English or leave!!!!!

lobo @ 1:22 pm

Better question is how are you doing with your English, when bilingual accomodation stops, then what?

johnnyonthespot @ 3:23 pm

“those that you hate”? To whom are you referring?

I haven’t learned it yet .. however, I am very good with American Sign Language . which is the 3rd most used language in the USA. And, yes… ASL IS a language. Good Luck! :)

cliffpotts2005 @ 1:22 pm

I know you posted this as a dig, but I would love to pick up Spanish as a second language, and intend to as well; however, I am busy with the release of my first professional book, and my masters in criminal justice, and taking care of my family. The Spanish will have to wait for a year or two.

I WILL NEVER LEARN SPANISH.
What kind of language is SPANISH? I am proud not to know a single word because I LIVE IN AMERICA, where everyone should speak ENGLISH and ONLY ENGLISH! Why is that so hard to understand thatt?

Anyone in the USA who doesn’t try to learn Spanish and at least offer to speak in Spanish with Hispanic people is not only stupid and rude, but probably arrogant as well, and will fall by the wayside along with those who fail to learn and use any other important subject and try to be pleasant and welcoming to other people. The Spanish word, I think, is “sympatico”.

spyderman131 @ 1:35 pm

If you live in the U.S. speak english or get the hell out

I can translate real Castilliano Spanish from Italian, but when it gets into dialectical Spanish…I’m slow to get it.

And frankly, that’s fine with me. It’s not my duty as an American to learn Spanish.

My ancestors learned to speak English when they moved here from Italia/Sicilia post WWII, and respected the ways and customs of the country they moved to.

It shouldn’t be any different now, English should simply be a prerequisite requirement for citizenship.

“China has become a major influence in the world today. Not only is China full of opportunities in business and politics, but Chinese culture, such as movies and literature, are also making their way into the western world. And with Chinese as the second most widely- spoken foreign language in America, more and more Americans are exposed to its language and culture.”

actually this is america and we speak english here you idiot. our LEGAL ancestors came here and learned the culture and mexican illegals should be no exception. they shouldnt even be here in the first place so theres no way americans would ever have to learn anything from them.

sister_godzilla @ 9:00 pm

I’m learning Spanish, German and Sign Language. I’d love to learn Chinese and Italian.

Sounds like you are the one with the hate.

Spanish is an awesome language. I’ve been studying it for a few years, and even went and lived in Mexico for the summer to study spanish at a school there.
The benefits of being bilingual are countless, and in today’s society the arrogant ones who refuse to learn anything but English are going to be left out.
It’s rewarding to be able to help out someone who doesn’t speak English as well.
I don’t agree with immigrants not learning English. English is an important language throughout the entire world. But this is The United States (Not America by the way, America encompasses both continents of North and South America) and if someone chooses to conduct their daily life in Spanish because it is more comfortable for them to do so, they have that right, and I’m more than happy to help them since I got off my ass and learned another language. :-)
